Electric scooters for kids have smaller motors and batteries, which produce just enough power that is ideal for fun yet steady cruising around the neighbourhood.

Remember the following guidelines when they get their first electric scooter:

• Make sure your child wears a high-quality electric scooter helmet that is certified to protect the rider against fatal head injuries.
• Before letting them ride for the first time, go over the basics of accelerating, turning, and braking.
• Only let them ride on safe areas like the sidewalk, bike lanes, empty lots, and backyards. Don’t let them ride in busy streets or full parking lots.
• Don’t let young children ride on their own. Instead, they can only ride under the supervision of a parent or another responsible adult.
• Kids’ electric scooters are not built for riding on wet and slippery roads, so don’t let your children ride in unpleasant weather conditions.
• Inspect their e-scooters regularly, making sure that the tyres are not flat and the components (especially the brakes and lights) are working well.
• Remind them to give way to pedestrians when riding.
