When you’re one of the best, the only way to go is up. This year, Segway introduced not one, not two… but three new models to their hit ES Classic series, known for their quality make and performance.
And their latest models are sure to be the same with their incredible upgrades. But how are they different from the beloved ES2 and ES4? Are they worth upgrading to? Get to know the new Segway Ninebot E22, E25, and E45 as well as the fan-favorite Ninebot Max by reading on!
Segway’s 2020 additions create more opportunities for daily commuters. You can now choose from three more models that mix your favourite features from the previous scooters with improved details and the latest innovations in personal mobility.
Enjoy a wide range of upgrades, from better motor power all the way to a more secure riding experience. Here are the three newest Segway Ninebot kick scooters:
It’s normal to be wary of electric scooters, especially when you’ve never tried one before. After all, it’s not quite the same with traditional kick scooters as they can go faster. Segway understands that not all commuters are self-assured in the face of quick acceleration and high top speeds.
Introducing the Segway Ninebot E22, Segway’s answer for many beginners. It’s the ES Classic series newest entry-level scooter designed with first-time riders in mind. It comparatively has a few lower specs that allow novice riders a bit more confidence when they try it out for the first time.
Though it’s not as powerful as other models, the Ninebot E22 can still match other scooters in the market. Its top speed of 20 kph while not the fastest is still a respectable pace for city commuting.
Even its 22 km maximum range can easily take you from point A to point B, and back. If you live somewhere a bit farther, never fear. The Ninebot E22 is also the right choice for last-mile riding as it only weighs 13.5 kg.
Plus, you’d get to enjoy a more comfortable commute with its upgraded features, like a sturdier frame, better folding, and brighter lights.
Suppose you’ve already experienced the convenience of using an electric scooter for your commutes. In that case, you’re better off with the Segway Ninebot E25. It’s reminiscent of the classic commuter scooters and is the perfect fit for urban locations… but with a few upgrades to keep everything exciting.
Introducing the Ninebot E25, your new preference when it comes to urban commuting. Like its ES2 predecessor, the Ninebot E25 can easily take you up to 25 kph, a smart speed to be in as it is the typical city limit. It also boasts a 25 km maximum range which is reasonable for weaving in and out of city streets.
Of course, being new means that the Ninebot E25 also comes with better details like a more durable frame design, more powerful motor, higher-performing battery, and an improved triple-brake system.
It’s not surprising that Segway also made improvements to the top-of-the-line model in the ES Classic series. If you loved the performance that the Ninebot ES4 gave you before, then you’d definitely fall head over heels with this new model.
Introducing the Ninebot E45, the premium e-scooter for those looking zippy performance, acceleration and solid hill climb. Enjoy a lightning-ride to your destination with its 30 kph top speed capability, and ride to farther distances with the 45 km maximum range.
The Ninebot E45 makes these specifications possible through its powerful, expandable battery. So you can really amp up your ride with this e-scooter! Like the other new models, the Ninebot E45 also shows off a range of improvements, including a better motor, improved hill-climbing, and upgraded tyres.
When it comes to superior performance and overall riding experience, the Segway Ninebot Max G30P still reigns supreme. This premium scooter is a heralded by fans all over the world because of its incredible speed and range. For a commuter scooter, it's a class beyond others, indeed.
The Ninebot Max G30P Global Edition boasts of a top speed of 30 kph and a whopping 65 km maximum range. It's no wonder long-distance commuters prefer this bad boy.
What's more, it has a strong 700W brushless motor, a powerful 551Wh battery, dual braking system, and puncture-resistant pneumatic tyres. All these contribute to the impressive performance that the Max G30P provides!
When you think Segway was already done creating perfection, they go beyond expectations to make it even better. The Ninebot Max G30LP is a testament to that. Incorporating your favourite features from its brother, the G30P, with new and improved details, you're sure to enjoy dashing around to wherever you're headed!
The Segway Ninebot Max G30LP Global Edition has a top speed of 30 kph and can travel to distances of up to 40 km in a single charge. It has tons of improvements including a more powerful brushless DC motor, self-healing flat-free tyres with suspension, and a lighter weight.
Now, if you look closely at the specifications between the Ninebot ES2 and Ninebot E25, you’d recognize that both scooters are similar. So, a question that might be on your mind is: should you still upgrade to the E25?
Well, if you already have the ES2 and it’s working fairly well for you, then you likely won’t need to upgrade if everything is still working well. But if you’re due to get a new one and are thinking of upgrading, then the Ninebot E25 is a good choice.
Both the ES2 and E25 can have you zooming around the city up to speeds of 25 kph, and can take you riding for around 25 km. They also have 3 riding modes that you can choose from depending on the kind of ride you want. As a typical commuter scooter, those are excellent specs.
Both e-scooters are conveniently portable at only 12.5 kg (ES2) and 14.4 kg (E25). You can both connect them to the Segway Ninebot App, and both have informative LED displays. They also require just a short charging time of 3.5 hours (ES2) and 4 hours (E25).
So what makes them different? While the E25 still makes use of the sleek integrated design that the ES Classic series is known for, it comes with a few improvements. This e-scooter is made with a larger frame made from an aviation-grade aluminium alloy that keeps all its wires neatly hidden, so there are no exposed parts.
The E25 also has a pair of 9-inch synthetic rubber, dual-density tyres that feature Segway’s recently developed flat-free technology. Now, you can get the comfort of a pneumatic tyre’s incredible shock absorption while enjoying the convenience of flat-free solid tyres.
This e-scooter also has a triple-braking system which adds an electromagnetic brake into the ES Classic series’ duo: electronic front and manual rear brakes. Aside from that, the E25 also has an improved lighting system which consists of a headlight, taillight, and atmosphere light.
You will also love the upgraded hill-climbing that this e-scooter has. The E25 can now go up slopes of up to 15% versus the ES2’s 10%. Plus, the easy folding system of the ES2 is made better by the E25’s convenient fold-up button found at the bottom of the stem.
Long-time fans of Segway Ninebot’s ES Classic series know that the Ninebot ES2 and Ninebot ES4 are essentially the same scooters. It just so happens that the Ninebot ES4 has an expanded battery that provides a few significant enhancements to the ES2.
That being said, the upgrades that are present in the E25 are also available in the E45. However, there are key differences. For one, the Ninebot E45 also has the same top speed and maximum range as the ES4 at 30 kph and 45 km, respectively. Instead of the E25’s 15% hill-climb, the E45 goes beyond at 20%.
Both the E25 and E45 also have IPX4 water ratings versus the ES2 and ES4’s IP54. Plus, they both include a bell that helps you alert fellow riders and pedestrians while driving.
Both Ninebot Max models are incredibly high-performing and one isn't necessarily better than the other. It all depends on what you need for a ride. Some people might find the G30P better while others might prefer the G30LP.
What you have to do is to determine where they differ and what features work better for you.
When it comes to speed, both the G30P and G30LP are equals with a top speed of 30 kph. Range and battery power, however, are higher with the G30P at 65 km and 551 Wh, respectively (vs. G30LP's 40 km and 367 Wh).
Both have powerful motors with the G30LP boasting a slightly stronger DC motor. The same goes for their 10-inch pneumatic tyres. While the G30P already has a fantastic puncture-free pair, the G30LP features a pair that's self-healing, flat-free and with improved suspension.
Lastly, size and weight can also play a huge role in your decision. The G30LP has a lighter weight at 17.5 kg. However, the G30P at 19.1 kg has a bigger deck which is helpful if you want to double with a child.
Aside from the upgrades in the Ninebot E25 and E45, Segway also introduced an all-new scooter to the ES Classic lineup. The Ninebot E22 is the latest entry-level scooter in the series.
This means that the specifications of the Ninebot E22 are a bit lower than the others. But that doesn’t mean you should take it for granted! This e-scooter is perfect for those just starting out on personal mobility or are just looking for a recreational weekend ride.
The Ninebot E22 is a mix of all your favourites from the ES Classic series as it has similar specs from the other models and a few unique ones that are entirely its own. For one, this e-scooter has the lowest top speed and maximum range abilities at only 20 kph and 22 km, respectively. But that’s still not bad if you’re only using it as a last-mile scooter for work.
Its 15% hill-climb ability is the same as the ES4 and E25 and is better than the ES2’s 10%. It has the same IP rating (IPX4) with the E25 and E45, which is an improvement from the ES2 and ES4’s IP54.
The Ninebot E22 also has the same upgraded 9-inch dual-density tyres that are introduced with the new ES Classic models. It has a similar dual braking system as the ES2 and ES4, and almost the same lights as well except the E22 has a rear reflector rather than a rear light.
As far as starting scooters are concerned, the Ninebot E22 really does stand above the rest.
Now that you understand how similar all the scooters are, it’s best to emphasize what makes them different from each other. This is relatively easy to do as many of the upgrades are similar across the three new models.
Here are some of the most significant improvements:
All three models (E22, E25, and E45) still have the sleek and simple design that many people loved about the ES2 and ES4. However, the materials used are aviation-grade 6 series aluminium alloy that has a fine particle sandblasting coating which makes it look and feel more durable and lightweight.
The new design also features an anti-thread technology which greatly improves the scooter’s connection. It also helps that the new frame is more massive and sturdier than before.
What’s more, the clean look of the new models allows wires and other protruding parts to be hidden, so you don’t need to worry about exposure.
The E25 and E45 come with a high-performing customized motor that can easily provide you with 700W at peak power and bring you to top speed quickly and efficiently. This more powerful motor enhancement also makes better hill-climb capabilities possible.
The E22 also has an excellent brushless DC motor that’s faster and stronger than most other entry-level scooter’s motor. That’s why this commuter scooter has rapid acceleration and good hill-climb capabilities.
One main improvement that all three ES Classic additions have is the 9-inch synthetic rubber, dual-density tyres.
These tyres are a significant improvement from the ones on the ES2 and ES4 because it balances all the benefits of a pneumatic and a solid tyre.
Through Segway’s latest development, these models have better front and rear shock absorption versus their predecessors. At the same time, they also have the convenient, flat-free features that will ease your worries.
All three models sport a 2.5W headlight that provides better illumination and visibility during your nighttime wanderings. This headlight has a 44.3 feet illumination range and is focused at a low angle to really keep the road visible.
The E22 also has a side reflector and a taillight for better safety during the evenings.
The E25 and E45 have a standard red taillight, yellow sidelights, and side reflectors for maximum safety. What’s more, both e-scooters also feature atmosphere lights under the deck that change colours and effects so that you can have tons of fun while riding in the dark!
Despite being a tad slower and short-ranged than the other models in the classic series, the E22 makes up for it by having equal hill-climbing power. It can go up ramps and slopes of up to 15%. Same goes for the E25 while the E45 can reach 20%.
All three models also have improved folding systems. While the previous system was already easy and convenient, now you can use the trouble-free fold step found at the bottom of the scooter’s stem. Then, you’re good to go!
Plus, a minor but very welcome upgrade that all three scooters have is the bell. You now have a bell on your handlebars that emit a loud, crisp tinkling sound that easily alerts passers-by and other riders. It may be simple, but it does enhance your safety while riding!
All three models are great and will work well for you, depending on the type of riding you’ll be doing the most. So how do you pick?
If you’re just starting out with riding an electric scooter, the best choice would be the entry-level Ninebot E22. It’s serviceable and will take you to your destination without any hitches without being too overwhelming.
The moderate pace that the E22 has can slowly ease you to the world of e-scooter riding. And its modest maximum range is also perfect for last-mile drives. It doesn’t hurt that the E22 is also quite affordable and will not break your bank when you get it.
If you’re looking for the perfect commuter scooter, then look no further than the Ninebot E25. It’s remarkably like everyone’s favourite ES2, so you’re guaranteed a wonderful experience. Plus, the new upgrades make it a powerful ride that’s worth getting.
It also keeps to the industry-standard 25 kph maximum speed and accompanies it with a reasonable 25 km maximum range. Those are specs that go beyond what you need when you’re just riding around the city.
Of course, some commutes tend to be longer than others. The Ninebot E45’s expanded battery and subsequently improved specs make it the best choice for long-distance riding.
Even if you don’t need the speed of 30 kph, it can be thrilling for the times you’re allowed to try that burst of speed. A 45 km maximum range is also exceeding expectations when it comes to commuter scooters because it’s almost twice as farther reaching than the average scooter.
That doesn’t even take into account the more powerful motor, longer-lasting battery (expanded or otherwise), and dependable triple-braking system. This is a long-distance commuter scooter that’s definitely worth getting!
When it comes to overall riding experience, you can't go wrong with either the Segway Ninebot Max G30P or the MaxG30LP. Both offer you amazing performance that will wow the socks out of your feet.
It's just a matter of priority when choosing between the two models. If you require an electric scooter who can do farther return trips, the MaxG30P is your best bet. If you want a lighter yet high-performing e-scooter, then the Max G30LP will benefit you more.
