The Segway Ninebot lineup offers an impressive selection, but even after years at the top, nothing has come close to the Segway Ninebot Max G30P.

Yet.

Its sturdy build, portability, and reliable battery system are only some of the reasons why the Ninebot Max has been one of the most popular e-scooters in the world.

But 2023 brought us some bad news: it was time to say goodbye to the Ninebot Max G30P. After its run as one of the top electric scooters since 2019, production of this model came to a close in 2023 to make way for Segway’s newer models.

The question left in the minds of riders all over the world now is: which one is the best replacement of the Ninebot Max?

Segway-Ninebot Max G30P: Why Was It So Popular?

Standing the test of time: the Segway-Ninebot Max G30P

After its launch in 2019, the Segway Ninebot Max G30P quickly became a favourite among commuters because of the following features:

Speed

It was not the fastest scooter, but the Ninebot Max G30P had higher top speed capability (up to 30 kph) compared to other models of the time.

Power

The e-scooter featured a powerful brushless motor that allowed it to climb hills and reach 25 kph in just 5.4 seconds.

Brakes

The Ninebot Max G30P was known for its reliable and efficient braking system, which worked even on wet surfaces.

Safety

The e-scooter utilised a kick-to-start design (requiring manual kick-off), which made it perfect even for beginners.

Battery Life

Its powerful battery (551 Wh) allowed the Ninebot Max G30P to run up to 65 kilometres.

Weight Capacity

The e-scooter supported the recommended 100-kg maximum load and was spacious enough for one adult rider and a child.

Portability

Weighing less than 20 kilograms, this scooter was portable. It also featured Segway’s classic fold and click method.

Tyres

The Ninebot Max G30P had A-rated 10-inch puncture-proof pneumatic tyres, giving the user a smooth riding experience.

The G30P has been a reliable commuter e-scooter for many years, but it definitely needed an upgrade to fit the needs of users today. Let’s take a look at two potential contenders: the Segway Ninebot G65 and the Segway Ninebot G2.

Segway Ninebot G65: What Did the G65 Do Differently From the G30P?

The Segway-Ninebot G65 has the same design as the Segway G2

Initially regarded as the next-generation Ninebot Max, the Segway Ninebot G65was launched in 2022 and addressed the G30P’s main problem: its total lack of suspension.

Segway fans were thrilled with this announcement, especially as the G65 was set to have both front and rear spring suspension. Now, riders could confidently navigate uneven terrain without losing control of the scooter.

But what about everything else? Here are the features that make the G65 a good upgrade from the Ninebot Max:

Suspension

The addition of suspension is, indeed, the primary selling point of the G65. It features triple suspension, which makes riding on rough terrain smoother and more comfortable.

Motor

The G65 features a 450W, which is an upgrade from the G30P’s 350W motor.

Weight Capacity

The newer model also supports a higher rider weight limit of 120 kilograms (as opposed to the G30P’s 100 kg).

Size

Compared to the original Ninebot, the G65 is larger in general and has wider handlebars, which produced a more stable ride.

Based on these updates, especially with the addition of suspension, the G65 is a solid option for Ninebot Max fans who are looking to upgrade their e-scooters.

Segway Ninebot MAX G2: How Does the G2 Differ From Both the G65 and the Ninebot Max?

Good design never ages: the G2's grey & yellow colour scheme

Not long after the G65 started production, Segway announced their next model: the Segway Ninebot MAX G2.

Launched early 2023, the G2 is set to be the ultimate upgrade of the original G30P. But how different is it from the G65?

Just by looking at the two, there is not much difference between the G65 and the G2. Both share similar sizes and weights, and they even have the same colour scheme (dark grey and yellow).

But the G2 seems to showcase an impressive range of upgrades. Here are all the improved features users can expect from the new Ninebot MAX G2:

Suspension

Similar to the G65, the G2 fixes a common problem by integrating adjustable front hydraulic and rear double spring suspension.

Size

The new Ninebot Max G2 comes in a larger size and has a wider handlebar. It also supports the same weight capacity as the G65 (120 kilograms).

Motor

One of the major upgrades the G2 sports is its stronger motor, which is 450W with a peak power of 900W, compared to the G65’s 450W motor with a peak power of 600W.

Climb Angle

Thanks to its strong motor, the e-scooter can handle climbing inclines of up to 22° compared to the G30P’s 10° and the G65’s 20°.

Range

Unlike its predecessors that can reach up to 65 km, the Segway Max G2 can reach up to 70 km on a single charge.

Speed

Similarly, users of the G2 can enjoy faster rides, as the e-scooter can reach speeds of 35 kph in the Global Edition (the G30P’s top speed was 30 kph, while the G65’s is 25 kph).

Safety Features

New safety features are also added to the G2 to ensure a fun and smooth ride. These features include the following:

  • High-power headlight
  • Visible red brake lights
  • Front and rear turn indicators
  • Electronic Horn
  • Apple FindMy integration

With all these new features in place, it is safe to say that the Segway Ninebot MAX G2 stands out as the best commuter e-scooter to date, which makes it a worthy successor to the original Ninebot Max.

Like the G65, the suspension on this model will make rides on rougher terrain smoother and a lot more comfortable. It is also a pleasant surprise to see turn signals and other safety features that were not present in older models, particularly as some governments move to mandate turn signals on e-scooters in the coming years

Despite its advantages, at 24 kilograms, the Segway Ninebot MAX G2 is relatively heavier than the G30P. For some commuters, this could potentially pose a challenge when it comes to bringing the e-scooter on public transport or carrying it for extended periods.

This is not unexpected, however, as adding better power and range usually comes at the expense of weight. On the other hand, you would be hard pressed to find a lighter e-scooter with all these specs.

Why Would You Want to Buy the G65 Over the G2?

The Segway Ninebot G65 addresses a problem present in the original Ninebot Max, and that itself is a compelling reason to buy one. However, in terms of buying advice, you’re far more likely to find a great deal on the G65 at the moment, including a lower price and discounted accessory bundles. Keep an eye out for special offers on the G65 in the next few months.

While it is missing some of the newer features of the G2,it is stilla good upgrade from the G30P and comes with all the features you can expect from a Segway e-scooter.

If you are looking for a dependable and straightforward e-scooter, the Segway Ninebot G65 is the right choice for you. As it was released in 2022, it has been around for a longer period of time, and it will be easier for you to look for trustworthy reviews of its performance and longevity.

Why Would You Want to Buy the G2 Over the G65?

It is easy to see why many would consider the Segway Ninebot G2 to be the true successor of the Max G30P. It is a great improvement on what is already one of the best e-scooters out there. What’s not to love?

For many users, the G2 hits the spot. It has suspension, speed, power, and extra safety features that its predecessors didn’t have.

While it is heavier than the G30P, what you get within the overall G2 package is a strong justification of the increased weight.

With the Segway Ninebot G2, you get to enjoy a safe and comfortable ride, cover more ground, and tackle steeper angles and inclines with ease. Plus the added indicators are a huge bonus for riding around traffic & pedestrians.

Wrapping Up

There is no question about it: the Segway Ninebot Max G30P will go down in history as a top-tier commuter e-scooter.The company has produced excellent upgraded models, and the Segway Ninebot G65 is a testament to the company's commitment to user feedback and continuous improvement.

Yet, ultimately, the Segway Ninebot G2 emerges as the clear winner. We think it is the best option for commuters in 2023 – truly a better version of the well-loved Ninebot Max.

Building upon the strong foundation of its predecessor, we’re excited to see the G2 become a respected and highly regarded choice among commuters.
