DESCRIPTION
The Ninebot F40 fills a gap in the e-scooter market by being an entry-level electric scooter that is actually good. Generally speaking, entry-level e-scooters are cheaper than those designed for more experienced riders, but with that, they tend to sacrifice features such as disc brakes, app integration, water resistance, or general ride comfort. For those riders who are taking their first scoots towards becoming e-scooter fanatics, the Segway-Ninebot F40 represents a reliable ride at a price that makes it a very realistic option.
The F40 comes with a 350W motor in the front wheel. While not the most powerful motor featured on a Segway, it is all most riders will need to get around the city, with the motor putting out enough power to carry up to 100Kg up an incline of 10 degrees.
The whole F-Series features regenerative braking, which uses the engine to slow the scooter whilst at the same time diverting energy lost through braking back into the battery. On top of this, you’ll also be getting a rear mechanical disc brake.
The F40 comes with three riding modes: Eco, Standard, & Sport. These change the overall top speed & acceleration, which is incredibly handy if your commute involves switching between roads and predominantly pedestrian areas.
With the amount of technology being crammed into electric scooters, they are gradually getting bulkier & heavier. This makes them less ideal for commuting, particularly if you need to fold them up and carry them. The F40 has a low 15.8kg weight, however, meaning that it can easily be stored or carried onto public transport.
Segway has led the charge for durable electric scooter tyres, kitting out most of their range with some degree of puncture-resistant rubber. You’ll also get these tyres on the F40, which is rare at this price point.

Segway uses the term 'Global Edition' for e-scooters that are free from restrictions or limitations in terms of speed & power output. A Global Edition e-scooter can access its full range of abilities out of the box and doesn't need to be hacked, re-programmed, or "flashed." The only limitations on Global Edition e-scooters are those required to keep the ride & its subsequent parts operating safely.
The F40 is part of Segway’s long-standing F-Series, which contains the F25, F30, & F65. Ranging from very cheap & low powered rides (F25) to the executive level F65, F Series electric scooters are all underpinned by excellent reliability at a very friendly price. They are about as no-fuss as electric scooters come, and given their price point, they are accessible to a huge range of people from older kids to pensioners.
