Collection: Best Electric Bikes | Top Rated E-Bikes For Sale

What Makes These E-Bikes The Best in Australia?

Being the ‘best’ is somewhat subjective. What is best for you might not be the best for someone else, so we have to compare a range of features, benefits, and pricing before we can describe our e-bikes as the best in Australia.

Ultimately, our electric bikes do more and cost less, but here are some of the more specific reasons our e-bikes are some of Australia’s best.

Performance

Performance predominantly comes down to range and speed. All the models in this list have speeds between 25 and 45 kph, while their ranges stretch from 50 to over 100 KM on a single charge. Some even have extendable ranges, with the option of interchangeable batteries.

Build Quality

Outside of performance, all our electric bikes are exceptionally well constructed. Durable alloy frames can support 120 + rider weights without risk of damage, while retaining their rigidity and stability.

Features

Features vary from model to model, but app integration, crystal-clear screens, turn signals, incorporated lights, throttles, torque sensors, and suspension feature across many of our models.

Purpose

Some electric bikes are built with a specific purpose in mind, such as commuting or cruising, but in reality, most of our e-bikes can fulfil a variety of roles, making them incredibly versatile for a range of riders.

Appearance

Outside of the above, all our e-bikes are sleek and aerodynamic, including incorporated batteries and smooth frames.

Value for Money

All of this is underpinned by the same thing: unparalleled value for money. The Australian e-bike market is rapidly growing, and with that comes a divergence of price. In a strange twist, however, price isn’t necessarily an indication of quality any more. There are huge e-bike brands available in bike shops across the country, but restrictions and limitations on these bikes are common, and parting with an extra $2,000 doesn’t mean you’ll be getting $2,000’s worth of extra value.

All our e-bikes are rigorously tested and vetted by our team to ensure they are as good as we say they are, and then priced in a way that makes them accessible to everyone.

How to Choose The Best Electric Bike For You

Buying an e-bike is a very personal decision. As mentioned above, what you choose might be totally unsuitable for another rider, so here are some things you can consider to make sure what you buy is right for you.

Motor Power

This is a two parter: firstly, there’s the legal component to motor power. Most Australian states have a restriction that means e-bikes with a motor power over 250W can’t be ridden on public land, however that is beginning to change in some states.

Second is how much power you need. If your commute takes you up a lot of hills, or you’re going to be lugging around racks & panniers, you’ll need a motor with more torque. If you’re riding on flat roads everywhere, then you won’t need as much power.

Remember that nominal and peak power are two different things. Nominal is ‘normal’ power, and it describes the power the motor can put out consistently without burning out. Peak power is the maximum power a motor can produce, but peak power is unsustainable for the motor and will eventually burn the motor out if it is forced to sustain peak power.

Laws don’t stipulate a difference between nominal and peak power, so it is possible to choose an e-bike that meets the 250W legal power output, but also have up to 750W of ‘reserve’ power sitting in the motor’s peak rating.

Style

The style of riding you’ll be doing also impacts your choices. An offroad or all-terrain e-bike has a different list of specifications to a commuter or cruiser e-bike.

There are an abundance of options, but first you should decide whether your routine riding will place you on smooth, gentle terrain such as tarmacked roads, or on rough tracks and loose terrain.Sand, snow, and dirt generally call for fat tyre or off-road capable mountain e-bikes as they are built with that purpose in mind.

Smooth roads such as suburbs or urban sprawl open up your choices, but you may prefer something a bit more svelte than a fat tyre e-bike for commuting.

Range

Next, think about how far you want to go. If your regular ride covers about 20KM per day, you don’t need an e-bike with a range of 100KM because you’ll have plenty of opportunities to recharge your battery.

However, if you plan on going on adventures that take you far from home, you need to focus on longer range e-bikes than can go the distance with you.

Speed

Speed isn’t such an important decision, but something of which you should be aware. Speed limits apply to e-bike use meaning that regardless of your motor power, you can’t go faster than 25 KPH in public areas.

However, you can still choose an electric bike that can go faster than this, and simply reduce the speed by varying power delivery levels.

Torque vs. Cadence Sensors

When you pedal an e-bike, the sensor is what detects the movement of the pedals and engages the electric motor. The two types of sensors are torque and cadence, and they produce very different types of power.

Cadence sensors are cheaper and less complex, but they are simplistic in their power delivery. If the pedals are moving, the motor is on and delivering full power. If the pedals aren’t moving, the motor is off. There is no in between meaning that they can be a little harder to control. However, it is possible to reach higher top speeds with less effort, as all you have to do is keep the pedals turning at a bare minimum to achieve maximum power output.

Torque sensors are more intuitive, and offer power delivery that is based on how hard you are pedalling. The harder you pedal, the more power the motor puts out. Torque sensors feel more like riding a regular bike, but with extra power.

It’s easy to control your speed, and the fluid, dynamic power feels very natural.

Racks & Panniers

Most e-bikes now come with attachments for carrying accessories & luggage, but you should be aware of how much you need to carry. If you need to carry a range of camping equipment for a weekend in the woods, you’ll need more than a basket on the front, so you should choose a model with multiple mounting points on the front, side, and rear of the bike.

However, if you just need to carry a change of clothes, you can get away with a simple rear rack and bag combo.

Price

It can be counter intuitive but price is generally the last thing you should consider. It’s a tricky one because you’ve probably started your search with a maximum price in mind, but a primary focus on price can steer you in the wrong direction and partner you with something that isn’t right for you.
