Just like in other Australian states, there are two categories of power-assisted bikes allowed in the state of South Australia. 

Power-assisted pedal cycles must have an electric motor(s) with a combined maximum power output of 200W. For this category, the e-bike must not weigh more than 50 KG.

On the other hand, EPACs or electrically power-assisted cycles should have a maximum continuous electric power output that does not exceed 250W. They should progressively reduce as the travel speed increases above 6KPh and cut off once the e-bike reaches 25 KPH.

While riding in Adelaide does not require a licence or registration, you need to be responsible in complying with the following road rules:

• Helmet Use: Always wear an e-bike helmet that complies with the current safety standards.
• Traffic Regulations: Observe and comply with all traffic signs, signals, and regulations applicable to cyclists and other vehicles.
• Visibility: Your e-bike must have a white front light and a rear red light, which are clearly visible from at least 200 metres
• Warning Devices: Use warning devices like a horn or a bell, and at night, remember to use a white front light and a red rear light.
• Alcohol and Drugs: Riding under the influence of alcohol or drugs is strictly prohibited. Ensure you are in a clear and sober state when riding your e bike. 
• Mobile Phone Usage: You should not use your mobile phones while riding. Avoid distractions, and keep your focus on the road to avoid potential accidents.
