DESCRIPTION
The Ninebot Max G30P has worked its way into the e-scooter hall of fame, and for good reason. But it’s been around a while now, and while it has received upgrades & updates throughout its lifespan, Segway has decided it’s time for an upgrade. Building on the electric commuter scooter heritage of the G30P, Segway have launched the P65 as the next evolution of e-scooter for those that want a well-built, functional, and reliable ride to get around town.
The standard P65 comes with a setting that ensures it meets all Australian regulations regarding speed limits for electric scooters. This makes riders much less likely to get caught speeding. The Global Edition, however, has those settings switched off, which unlocks the full speed potential of the P65S (38 kph) without endangering the componentry. Ultimately, the Global Editions are factory standard and go faster as a result.
Punctures are troublesome on electric scooters, and depending on your ride, you could be waiting for a couple of weeks for a replacement. The P65SE, however, comes with a new type of tyre closer to what you’d find on a car. Self-healing, tubeless tyres on the front and rear now offer much better traction on wet and greasy roads, keeping riders safer in traffic.
E-Scooter manufacturers have been trying to find the best way of securing electric scooters to prevent theft. Some require a key. Some require an app. So far, however, none have used the rider’s NFC card as the key. The P65 brings this feature to the public with its NFC security system. Simply place your card on the handlebars to unlock the ride and get on your way.
In Australia, speed limits for e-scooters vary depending on proximity to pedestrians. Fortunately, the P65 has 5 riding modes that adjust the speed limit of the scooter to make sure you’re always going at the right speed in the right place.
The P65SE also brings a front disc brake for greater stopping power, while keeping the rear regenerative braking that pushes energy back into the battery when braking for extra efficiency.
The P65 comes with a wider deck than the G30, and thanks to the layout of all the controls on the handlebars, riders will be able to keep their balance easily when swinging around the local roads.
The Segway P65 isn’t a performance e-scooter. If that’s what you’re after, turn your attention to the Segway P100SE or the Segway GT Series. What the P65 is is a very capable and technologically-advanced electric commuter scooter. While many of the features found on the P65 exist on other models, none of those rides on the market have all of those features.

The scooter is a nice upgrade in the speed going 40 km/h on sports mode. I really like the NFC (Near Field Connectivity) swipe card technology integrated in it. The indicators are a great addition of the scooter too although don’t last for as long as I would like so it’s necessary to press them a couple of times. I also like the sequential multicoloured lights on the fork assembly area too. The scooter does well going up hills.
The scooter is a bit on the heavy side and there’s not really any suspension so it’s a little bumpy going over speed humps etc still. The battery drains quite quickly on sports mode too so it’s best to remember to use cruise control so it doesn’t drain to the same extent as without activating it.
To activate the cruise control (doesn’t say in the manual anywhere), you need to press down on the headlight button after riding on a flat surface for at least 5 seconds and it will make the same noise as the electronic horn.
The P65 SE Global is a fantastic scooter. It has ample power for speed and importantly goes up hills well. Highly recommend it.
