Riding an electric bike in Gold Coast is fun, but you need to make sure to comply with the city’s safety guidelines. Here are Queensland’s general guidelines for riding bicycles:

• Must wear an Australian Standard (AS) approved electric bike helmet
• Must only carry a passenger if the e-bike is designed to carry passengers (the cyclist and the passenger must wear helmets)
• Must not have a phone while riding (though mounting the phone to the bike’s handlebars is allowed)
• Must behave predictably when riding on roads and paths
• Must have a working warning device (e.g. bell or horn)
• Must not ride on a road or path where signs or road markings prohibit bicycles

Finally, when riding at night or in low-light conditions, you must ensure visibility by having a white front light, a red rear light, and a red reflector.
