Apollo Air V3 - $1,499

Manufacturer: Apollo

The new Apollo Air 2023 surpasses its forerunners with notable upgrades. Incorporating a range of engineering advancements, from a new handlebar to better self-healing tyres & improved folding mechanism, the new Apollo Air V3 stands out as a superior version compared to its predecessors.

Considering its price point, the new Apollo Air is an impressively powerful device. With a remarkable IP66 water-resistance rating – the highest in this category – it surpasses its predecessors and sets a new standard. This rating offers superior protection against water exposure, making the Air V3 well-equipped to handle various weather conditions.

Another feature that sets the new Apollo Air apart and solidifies its position as the ultimate modern commuter is the inclusion of the Power RBS (Regenerative Braking System). This system simultaneously recharges the battery when the brakes are engaged, reducing battery consumption and allowing you to enjoy an extended range on your rides. While regen braking isn’t a new feature on electric scooters, Apollo have perfected the technology. They’ve gone one step further in adding a dedicated thumb trigger to activate the regen braking system on its own, and it’s powerful enough to use without the support of regular brakes.

In addition to its impressive features and performance, the new Apollo Air maintains its convenient and portable design with a weight of 17.5 kg, just like its older versions.

With impressive new features and enhanced overall performance, the Apollo Air is undeniably a city commuter’s dream that caters to both beginners and enthusiasts alike.

Segway-Ninebot Max G2 - $1,499* (on sale)

Manufacturer: Segway-Ninebot

This may seem an unusual inclusion given that the new Max G2 technically comes with an RRP of $1,699 but we’ve had it on sale for $1,499 since it arrived at our warehouse. It may not always stay there, but at the time of publishing this guide, we are selling the G2 at $1,499 and it’s proving incredibly popular.

The G30 set the bar so high for the Ninebot Max range that we were curious what could possibly be better, but we’ve been blown away by the G2. Featuring front & rear suspension, full lighting including indicators, an improved 500W motor with a peak output of 900W, a larger & more stable frame, and vastly superior app integration, the G2 is a landmark electric scooter.

This isn’t just a re-skinned G30P. While the G2 looks similar to its older siblings, almost every feature has seen an upgrade. Given that it’s currently only $200-$300 more expensive than the G30 at its peak popularity, the G2 is incredible value for money as well.

A feature rich e-scooter that’s worthy of the e-scooter hall-of-fame even after a couple of months in the spotlight. If you need an electric scooter that can do a bit of everything, the G2 is a must.

*$1,499 is a launch price and is accurate as of July 2023 but this is subject to change without notice.

Segway-Ninebot E2 Plus - $649

Manufacturer: Segway-Ninebot

The Segway-Ninebot E2 Plus is one of the latest – and, quite possibly, one of the cheapest – additions to the brand’s lineup. Designed for the everyday rider, the E2 Plus is an excellent choice for those seeking an affordable and reliable first- or last-mile ride.

The E2 Plus showcases a contemporary, minimalist aesthetic and an ultra-lightweight design. Weighing in at just 14.4 kg, this scooter stands out as one of the lightest and most portable options available today. The E2 Plus also features a quick 2-step folding system, allowing for easy and convenient carrying and transportation.

Perfectly suited for short commutes to work, school, or within the neighbourhood, the Segway-Ninebot E2 Plus delivers a top speed of 25 kph and a range of 25 km on a single charge. Despite its affordable price tag, the E2 Plus maintains a high-quality build with its automotive-grade steel frame. The E2 Plus is equipped with a dual brake system, providing reliable and efficient stopping.

The E2 Plus is no slouch when it comes to tech, either. It has 256-colour ambient lights integrated into its body and a large 2.8 inch LED screen that displays quick information about your speed, battery level, and more. Safety-wise, the scooter is also decked out with a 2.1W front headlight, E-Mark-certified side reflectors, and a rear brake light, all working together to ensure you are visible from all directions.

If you're looking for an electric scooter that combines affordability with top-notch quality, the Segway-Ninebot E2 Plus is a standout choice.

Segway-Ninebot F2 Plus - $1,099

Manufacturer: Segway-Ninebot

The latest in Segway’s popular value-for-money F-Series lineup, the F2 Plus is a great above-entry e-scooter. It doesn’t carry the weight or price of the more premium G2 Max, but the F2 is a great option for those who want most of the features of the G2 but prefer a lighter weight e-scooter (the F2 Plus is just 17.7kg).

A 400W motor with peak output of 800W produces a legislation-pleasing 25kph top speed, while a 460Wh battery produces a 55 km range. This range is further supplemented by Segway’s proprietary RideyLONG technology, an algorithm that coordinates the battery, motor, and controller to squeeze as much range out of the F2 as possible.

You’ll also be getting built in front-and-rear indicators, traction control, self-healing pneumatic tyres, and a supported rider weight of 120 kg.

The F-Series is made up of a variety of models and all of them have proven immensely popular rides over the years. They are all very price-friendly, but more recent models are packed with an increasing amount of technology that makes them brilliant e-scooters for how much they cost. On top of that, they all come with Segway’s signature reliability & build quality.

The F2 Plus lies halfway between the budget E2 Plus and the flagship G2 Max. If the E2 doesn’t do enough for you, but the G2 is too expensive or heavy, fix yourself up with an F2 Plus.

Segway-Ninebot F40 - $1,099

Manufacturer: Segway-Ninebot

Coming from a long line of dependable electric scooters, the Segway-Ninebot F40 showcases exceptional build quality and premium components, upholding high standards associated with the Segway-Ninebot brand.

Staying true to the Segway-Ninebot tradition, the F40 showcases a simple and user-friendly folding mechanism that has become a trademark of the brand. This electric scooter features a quick and secure folding system, enabling users to effortlessly fold down the handlebars for easy carrying or convenient storage. Plus, because the scooter only weighs 15.8 kg, it is not a burden to carry or transport.

The F40 is also equipped with 10-inch pneumatic tyres for effortless gliding over rough and bumpy roads. Even without suspension, the large anti-puncture tyres work to cushion the rider against shocks and vibrations, making every ride surprisingly smooth.

The Segway-Ninebot F40 offers a very stable ride, even when going ascending and descending. Since it comes with three riding modes – Eco, Normal, and Sport – we advise learning how to engage each mode according to terrain.

For example, while the Eco mode extends your range and battery, it causes the scooter to operate at a slower top speed, which can make ascending hills an issue. So, if you live in a hilly area or if you need to go uphill, engage the Sport mode, which has a higher top speed and better climbing capabilities.

With its build quality, stability and performance, and attractive price point, the Segway-Ninebot F40 is one of the best commuter e-scooters within its price range.

Anyhill UM2 - $1,499

Manufacturer: AnyHill

Known for its signature minimalist design, the Anyhill UM2 makes a remarkable comeback to the electric scooter market with a standout feature that is rarely found elsewhere, regardless of the price point: a detachable battery.

The UM2 is equipped with a swappable LG battery located atop its deck. Once unlocked, the battery is easy to detach and charge, which enables you to conveniently charge the battery without the need to charge the entire scooter.

We love how this opens up the possibility of bringing a fully-charged spare battery during long-distance trips. Simply switching to a backup battery doubles the scooter's original 30-km range, so you can significantly reduce downtime and reach your destination in the most efficient manner possible.

Created with urban commuting in mind, the UM2 proves its capability with a set of durable 10-inch pneumatic tires that can handle potholes and rough roads with ease. Additionally, the UM2 is equipped with a robust 450W motor and enhanced throttle response, allowing it to confidently conquer slopes with inclines of up to 20%.

Not one to compromise on design, the UM2 maintains its sleek aesthetic and lightweight frame (20 kg) through the use of aviation-grade aluminium alloy. The result is an electric scooter that withstands pressure and the wear-and-tear of regular use.

The N65 showcases exquisite engineering, effortlessly gliding over different terrain. These robust tires effectively absorb shocks and vibrations caused by rough roads, ensuring a smooth and comfortable ride.
