Looking for an electric bike that's comfortable, powerful, and easy to get on? Look no further than an Aventon step-through electric bike. Featuring lower, easily-accessible frames, you'll find comfortable riding positions for more relaxed riding without the sacrifice of build quality, stability, or performance.
A step-through electric bike either has no top tube, or a lower top tube than their step-over counterparts. Depending on the frame style, they can also be described as low-step electric bikes. For example, the Aventon Level.2 Step Through would be considered step-through because of its frame geometry, whereas the Aventon Pace 350.2 Step Through could be considered both step-through or low-step due to its low height at the centre of the frame. In short, all low-step electric bikes are step-through, but not all step-through electric bikes are low-step.
The most common reason riders buy step-through electric bikes for comfort. Because riders don’t have to kick or swing their leg over a top tube to get on, they are easier to mount and dismount. This has proven more popular for a number of different types of rider:
Whether through age or injury or just size, some riders find it difficult to kick their leg over a higher frame. Regardless of whether this is because doing so is simply uncomfortable, or whether there is something else that prevents them from raising their leg that high, a step-through frame is significantly easier to get on and off than its step-over counterpart.
Step-through electric bikes are much more popular with delivery drivers who will regularly need to hop on and off their bikes. It’s just easier.
Riders who regularly have to come to a stop, such as those commuting from urban traffic, will generally find step-through frames are more comfortable & more stable.
Step-through frames were initially popular with female riders who would often be wearing dresses or skirts. These frames were easier to get on and off, but they also reduced the risk of ‘flashing’ other people who may be nearby.
This is still the case, but these frames have become a lot more gender-neutral in recent years thanks to the increase in ride-share electric bikes and the normalisation of these frames being considered ‘genderless’. This means that any rider that regularly wears restrictive clothing, including suits, can benefit from a step-through electric bike.
In short, ride comfort trumps the outdated notions of frames being considered gendered.
